Whilst the concept of a non-keyboard MIDI controller is nothing new, the AudioCubes do represent an elegant solution to the age-old dilemma of how to make live performance more interesting for electronic musicians. Although the music I make is electronic and undeniably pop, one of my musical mentors is the film composer John Barry, who passed away earlier this year. Barry’s legacy of film scores is diverse, but he is most remembered for this 007 films with the 1969 On Her Majesty’s Secret Service being his and my favourite. Asger Carlson’s intentionally overexposed and blown-out photos all involve many layers of visual puns and optical illusions. For his Wrong series, Carlsen adds bug eyes, wooden legs, and second heads to the subjects of what appear to be found photos, confusing the images sources and the artist’s hand. Describing their sound as ‘nihilist suicide pop’, Rome-based quartet Spiritual Front draws immediate comparisons to Nick Cave, but their approach to dark themes have a hint of irreverence — they inject unexpected doo-wop flares and new wave bombast to their atmospheric neofolk. Their latest album, Armageddon Gigalo, is a beautiful and catchy masterpiece for fans of Death In June, Sol Invictus, and even latter-day Duran Duran.

Give your feet a treat and your neighbors a fright with this awesome pair of (super) creepy Zombie sandals. Oooohhh, spooky. Now, when’s Halloween again?
