We Are Matik is a design consultancy firm and one of their projects I most admire was the Boys Noize Record’s music tour in Los Angeles. They created a live music experience at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in East Hollywood and what I love about their work is that they give a whole new experience […]
My Fashion Playing Cards Series is a body of work focusing on fashion illustration. Using pen and ink, gouache, and micron pens, I created these women who are mysterious, dark, and possess a lot of sex appeal. Fashion is interesting to me because you can create a fantasy world that one can escape to and I began to imagine these women being part of this non-existent place that we can aspire to be a part of or just enjoy looking at.
As a big fan of Chuck Palahniuk’s writing and his Twitter feed, I stumbled across Oliver Shilling’s stylized movie posters. He’s a graphic designer with great skill with text and fonts and uses washed out colors that give a mood unto itself. A bit somber, but then again, the posters he’s designed, such as Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, and Shutter Island, all have that feel in common. Incidentally, all the posters he has redesigned happen to be on my favorite movies list. I’m a big fan.
My new favorite musical act is Charli XCX. She comes from the UK, so she has this East London vibe, embodying the hipster feel mixed with a bit of 80s. Her album, Nuclear Seasons, is a great blend of vocals and beats that reflects Madonna and The Knife.
Allison Schulnik from Southern California, is a painter, sculptor, and animator. Her sad characters (which she makes herself) are brilliant and the animation gives a boost to her work as you can see them coming to life. Cal Arts, which she attended, is famous for clay animation as it is the school Tim Burton attended.
