With so many t-shirt labels coming and going these days it is a good thing to see some sticking around. London-based Ivory Skies has been around for nearly two years now — which in t-shirt language is long. The brand’s new collection has uncovered some more ancient drawings that sit nicely on a printed tee. Designer Carlo Salanitri has built somewhat of a cult following amongst the t-shirt community, with a large online following. Read more

Art, design, and fashion company Perks and Mini have just launched a new website for their publishing company, PAMBOOK, which came about five years ago when PAM founders, Misha Hollenbach and Shauna T, wanted to work with some of their favourite artists and photographers via print media. Some of the people to be involved thus far include Peter Sutherland, Sk8thing, Mark Borthwick, Ed Templeton, Fergus Purcell and Barry McGee. Each book has a unique story to it and is printed in limited numbers worldwide.

Art collective, The Changes, have released an old video from their archives. The video, which was partly shot in Nigo’s Bapestudio some seven years ago, has resurfaced, showcasing the work of Australian label PAM, BBC/Ice Cream artist Skatething and Tonite creator, Fergadelic. PAM’s description of the ongoing collaboration is: ‘The Changes is the idea that when a few musicians come together, they form a ‘band’, which makes for a different, and sometimes stronger, dynamic for making music. We thought the same could be true of four artists coming together to do a similar thing’.

Swedish rock band Bob Hund have released their latest single Fantastiskt (Fantastic) on a once-off print vinyl record that can only get played up to thirty times. The band then enlisted Martin Kann Design to design a suitable casing. So taking it literally he put it in a record player and etched lyrics to the song on the case. The record and the player were then listed on eBay and sold for a staggering US$3,650 to become the most expensive record ever in Sweden. Read more

I am pretty much speechless. The title speaks for itself. It’s just brilliant. The Muppets take on Queen with their take on the classic, Bohemian Rhapsody. And the result is a must see video.

Australian jewellery designer Polly van der Glas has released her latest collection, which makes my teeth ache. Her latest pieces feature human teeth. Yes, you’re reading correctly. Taking old teeth from donations in Australia from friends and family who have had teeth extracted from normal dental procedures, Van Der Glas sterilizes each tooth, then sets them into rings, pendents and necklaces. It makes interesting viewing, but I think I’ll leave it at that. Some strangers’ tooth on my hand just isn’t right!

Most people would frown when the word Evisu comes out of someone’s mouth. Having built a brand in Japan on the back of quality production, Evisu in recent years has been pretty far off the mark. With over embellishments and the the excessive printing of their distinctive logo — the Kamone (seagull) — pretty much everywhere and anywhere on the jeans. Things are about to change down in Evisu world with the recent appointment of proven world class denim designer Scott Morrison and his loyal fellow denim head crew. Read more

Three Australian mates have teamed up to create an environmentally friendly alternative to the wire hanger. Seeing the gap in the market for a hanger that doesn’t take a hundred years to break down, the guys over at Green Hanger took it upon themselves to design and distribute a 100 percent recyclable cardboard hanger. Not only can these be used in the household and in shops, but also at your local dry cleaners. At present, you can get this simple yet clever design at select Australian retailers with the overseas market soon to be opened up. Read more

Kseniya Simonova is a Ukrainian artist who just won Ukraine’s version of America’s Got Talent. She uses a giant lightbox, dramatic music, imagination and ‘sand painting’ skills to interpret Germany’s invasion and occupation of Ukraine during WWII. If you have a spare eight and half minutes in your life, it’s well worth checking out.

Below is the video clip that is going to win the VMA’s 2010 best video award. Having previously won it for their We Are Your Friends clip, and you guessed it, been interrupted by Kanye West, Justice have delivered another top shelf video directed by Keith Schofield. Recreating the final scenes of a movie, with rolling credits throughout, this clip is is so simple but creative. It sure is more brain stimulation than watching Beyonce dance around in a one piece swim suit singing ‘All the single ladies’. Read more

Designer Friedrich Gray and Australian photographer and director Tim Richardson will join forces to bring together a project titled A Moving Image Definition of Friedrich Gray. The project will initially consist of a two to four minute film, with plans to then extract images from the feature to form the next season’s campaign. There will be a strong musical element also with Sydney Musician Jono Ma (Lost Valentinos and Knife Machine) composing a piece especially. Plans are already in place for the project to continue on as an exhibition, whereby the film is presented in a live format and the images are presented in a hanging format.

San Francisco illustrator Caitlin Kuhwald’s cleanly rendered paintings really hit the figurative spot. It’s so refreshing to come across an illustrator who still gets kicks from beautifully rendering a face, every strand of hair, every wrinkle in their clothing, and then turn around and subvert it all with a big bag of creative tricks. No Age are doing something different to the mass of noise-laden, guitar-drum duos canvasing the lo-fi airwaves at the moment. I’m just not sure quite what. Their album, Nouns, is receiving top-rate reviews after sell-out crowds after screaming, obsessive fans. The music is simply massive: a vast landscape of heat haze, somehow both tranquil and manic, punctuated by singer Dean Sprouts backdrop of barely intelligible vocals and Randall’s distorted, archaic sounding drums.

I recently photographed the launch party for Mutewatch, a really cool new watch that works just by swiping it just like an iPhone. Very cool. Nice party as well.
