A Liter of Light is an inspiring project to bring lights to the poverty-stricken regions of the Philippines. Dwellings built too close to one another made natural lighting almost impossible, while electricity is unaffordable. The project aims to light up these houses by creatively reusing plastic bottles, filling them with water and bleach, then fixing them into holes on the roof. Best of all, its all eco-friendly.

Hong Kong-based artist, Tsang Kin Wah, creates intricate textures and flowery patterns composed of words. Foul words and obscene materials are regular features in his works. Despite the nature of his subjects, his work manages to preserve its beauty and elegance. I particularly like his color schemes, similar to those of Chinese ceramics.

A friend of mine recently moved to Tasmania to further her studies and did some road trips while she was there. From her pictures, I came across Triassic sandstone formations called the Painted Cliffs. It is a very picturesque site with amazing photographic opportunities. I am totally in awe of the lines, the textures, the shapes, and the colours of the formation. It’s a wonderful piece of organic art. Nature certainly makes a great painter.

I came across photographer Mary Ellen Mark on a random search of creative things about India. She was one those photographers who shot with respect and expressed deep emotions through her pictures. In her series of explicit and provocative photo documentary, Falkland Road: Prostitutes of Bombay, she captures the plight, the hopes and dreams of street prostitutes in India’s Falkland Street.

Hong Yi is a Shanghai-based artist who creates interesting works with unusual mediums, ranging from coffee stains, sunflower seeds to actually, a basketball. The 26 year old whom also referred as RED, was recently in the spotlight for her stunning coffee stain portrait of Jay Chou and a representation of NBA player Yao Ming painted with basketball marks. Her works showcased an extreme tonal precision of light and dark. They also presented a spontaneous and unpretentious texture. I admire how she had challenged common techniques and mediums and really look forward to what she’s up next.

Built to honor the living Buddha of Ji-Gong, this temple in the deserted town of San-Chih was installed using hundred types of corals and over sixty thousand types of seashells. All sculptures and statues in the temple were also adorned with the same material. A composition of such material creates very interesting details and texture.
