If butdoesitfloat is a conversation, it is the best kind of online conversation there is. The premise is simple: every couple of days, Dutchman Folkert Gorter of Cargo Collective, LA-based Atley Kasky of Non Projects, or Will Schofield of the illustrative blog 50 Watts posts a series of pictures of art with a quote. The appeal is beautifully simple: the juxtaposition between the words and art –ranging from traditional painting to radical installation –is not merely aesthetically-pleasing but rather cerebral.

Though now based in the United States, Simon Birch remains a darling of the contemporary art world in Hong Kong. The majority of his work features immense paintings with figures that seem to be falling or jumping in various degrees of abstraction. Though these pieces deal with themes of transition, Birch has also explored the concept of myth as he expands into installation, reflected in 2010 in HOPE AND GLORY: A CONCEPTUAL CIRCUS, Hong Kong’s largest installation to date.
The appeal? A drug called Soy Sauce promising an ‘out of body experience’, a dash of apocalyptical humor, and a plot that seems to go everywhere and anywhere at once.
