It’s refreshing to find a Pinterest board that isn’t full of bridal shower ideas or decorative food. Which is why I’m loving this gem: the Best of Taylor Hanson. It also seems like a great way for a Hanson fan like me to control my appreciation in a tasteful way, rather than creepin’ around on a site like this.

These Italian twill silk scarves are part of a limited-edition run by London based visual artist Misha Milovanovich. Misha cites travel, 60s prints, Allen Ginsberg’s poetry, Pop Art, Jazz music and New York as her inspiration, and claims to ‘spin, rhyme, mix and scratch her colours and patterns like a Voodoo Hip Hop artist on substances known to alter cognition and perception’. Accompanying artist babble aside, the scarfs are pretty great. Read more

I’m loving these Bed Buds pillow cases designed by American artist Andy Rementer for Australian storefront and online museum, Third Draw Down. Rementer is best known for his colourful gouache portraits, plants and typography work, an example of which can be seen at his latest exhibition at the Ship of Fools gallery in Holland. Read more

Zandra Rhodes (aka the fashion designer with the trademark shocking pink bob) has teamed up with pastry chef, Bruce Marais, to design The Mandeville, a hotel hangout for afternoon tea. Even better, the afternoon tea includes ZR cups: chocolate fashioned into little cups filled with bright purple whipped coffee cream. Yum! Read more

Diehard Mac fans can take their love to the next level. The scent of an Apple product being opened for the first time has been recreated by a group of Australian-based artists and a fragrance company called Air Aroma. Specifically, the scent recreates the smell of the plastic wrap covering the box, printed ink on the cardboard, the smell of paper, plastic components inside the box, and the smell of the aluminium laptop. Although it’s not available to purchase (yet), you can get a whiff of the fragrance while it is on display in Melbourne between April 20 and May 12. At least it’s a cheaper high than buying a new laptop.

Fashion designer Gareth Pugh has turned his hand to costume design for a new ballet called Carbon Ballet, and judging from this first glimpse, you can expect the garments to have his usual excessive flair. The Wayne McGregor production has also called big shot producer Mark Ronson on board to write the music.

Saturdays is a surfer concept store down a small, cobblestone street in New York’s Soho. There is an espresso bar serving their own blend of La Colombe coffee and out back is a fully planted yard acting as a wood-decked sanctuary from the streets. It also sells surf wear and a killer collection of surf-inspired coffee books. A hidden New York sanctuary for anyone with an appreciation for surf culture. Read more

Toronto-based illustrator and comic book artist Patrick Kyle definitely appeals to people who use the word “rad” a lot. His crude, counter-culture-informed images reference pop culture — heavy metal paraphernalia, the Simpsons, toys from the ’70s — as well as mystical, psychedelic, and scatological themes. Read more

Sometimes the Deviant Art community throws up a gem of a piece. And this one by Papa Ninja is a star. Somehow it’s funny, sexy, and artistically compelling at the same time. Or perhaps that’s just because I’m two hours into the day and haven’t had a coffee yet.

My boyfriend is your typical guy who likes wearing nice clothes, but has no patience for shopping. So when a recent shopping trip in Byron Bay went into its second hour, I knew I was heading into dangerous territory. I knew I only had about two more minutes before he’d reach his man-shopping threshold, so you can imagine my surprise when from across the store he called out: ‘babe, do you like these shorts?’ And sure enough there he was, elbow deep in a stack of brightly printed boardies by Aussie label, Toggs.
