Bridget Barnett Contributor

By Bridget Barnett in New Music on Monday 24 December 2012

Haim is a ‘nu-folk–meets–nineties-R&B’ sibling pop group from LA, whose debut album is set for release in early 2013. This pre-released single, Don’t Save Me, not only has a catchy 90s pop sound, but it also throws in references to the era in the (awesome) video-clip styling.

Bridget Barnett Contributor

By Bridget Barnett in New Art on Friday 21 December 2012

I’ve never had much will power when it comes to waiting until Christmas Day to open presents. Unlike me, art photographer Hugh Turvey won’t get caught unwrapping and rewrapping gifts early. He has used an X-ray machine to uncover the mystery.

Arizona-based photographer Ernie Button has created a series of photos called Cerealism, featuring various cereals photographed in different locations. Some cereal become fish in a bowl, some turn into bays of hay. But my favourite? The Great Pyramid of Oatmeal Squares.

Ice-cream moon cakes from Häagen-Dazs

Bridget Barnett Contributor

By Bridget Barnett in New Food and Packaging on Wednesday 3 October 2012

I don’t care if it looks too good to eat, I’d definitely tuck into one of these ice-cream moon cakes created by London designers Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien for Häagen-Dazs. The White Moon consists of flavours including pistachio, macadamia nut, meringue and raspberry, while the Orange Moon is filled with chocolate, nuts and salted caramel. The designers say they were inspired by Georges Méliès’ 1902 silent film Le Voyage dans la Lune, Armenian surrealist Léon Tutundjian’s relief work of 1929, a childhood Bollywood song and the near-spherical shapes of early ice cream bombes. So a cake that is as pretentious as it is delicious. I’m OK with that… who has a spoon?

By Bridget Barnett in New Design on Saturday 22 September 2012

Yesterday, during a frustrating computer crashing moment, I ripped my stress ball up into tiny foam pieces and felt considerably better for it afterwards.
