Andrew Ashbrook is a profoundly mysterious gentleman with a disarming sense of humor. (Alternately: Andrew is a body builder with kung-fu abilities who is ready for the women.) I hardly see him despite the fact that he’s one of my roommates, so I’m always learning something new about the guy. Read more

Just what we all needed, another way to watch hours drain away on the Internet under the false pretense of productivity! I can’t tell you how often I’ve sat frustrated in Photoshop, wishing there was an easier way to generate pixel art. So I’m excited to see this app has simplified the process. I’m particularly loving the sharing aspect of it: you can dive in and build your 8-bit dreams from scratch, or you can collage using a library of users’ past creations.

I love this little publication. Remedy Quarterly collects recipes and the stories behind them. Each quarter has a theme, and I had the pleasure of contributing to this most recent issue (Stealing). Designer Kelly Carámbula does a fantastic job with it, and it’s worth checking out for its design alone. Read more

I discovered this pretty publication last month at the NY Art Book Fair. FUKT seems to be a one-man endeavor that publishes ‘usually annually’ and contains an excellent selection of contemporary drawing. It curates a great span of artists working in styles ranging from fine art to the design-inspired. The magazine can be found via Revolver Publishing.

This fascinating little app was featured on a recently re-run episode of Studio360 where contributor Eric Molinsky described using the program as an antidote for his insomnia. The app taps into CCTV cameras from around the world. I don’t have insomnia, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t have slightly voyeuristic tendencies, just like the app’s thousands of other users. By far the best part: you can control the camera from thousands of miles away! Technology is baffling.

Rui Ribeiro is an illustrator with a graphics background, so his technical skill and attention to design can be seen in his work. His works have messages reflecting today’s society, as well as human details, like hair, to infuse his style with highly detailed finishing.

Don’t you know this ritual, too? Monday morning, coffee to go, picking up your newspaper of choice, curious to see what’s the top news today. This is the kind of cover that makes me spit out my coffee giggling.

When I first saw the freakishly long, beaded Ghostdancer earrings on a friend of mine, I was shocked to actually be looking at something undoubtedly inspired by Native American art that didn’t actually insult someone’s culture. Read more
