If ever there was an underrated craft, it was crochet. Most of us would associate it with grandmas and dated décor, but there are a few artists willing to elevate it into something much more interesting. Shauna Richardson’s Crochetdermy combines crochet with taxidermy to make life-sized crocheted animals. Recently Richardson has taken her craft to its limits in a two year project to make three gigantic lions for the 2012 London Olympics.

Since 1996, Joe Stevens has been photographing customized vans in the locations he finds them across the American west coast. Stevens links the Vans’ demise to a change in technology and culture that is also killing off traditional film photography. His aim is photograph the last remaining Van with the last roll of film in existence.

Jonathan Harris’s photo essay follows a traditional Inupiat Eskimo whaling hunt and is told through over three thousand photos taken at 5 minute intervals over nine days. This detailed, if unpredictable method shows the pace of the hunt: from tense waiting to frantic action. Harris presents them on screen as a sea of images beginning somber white and turning dramatically to blood red.
