My fascination with handcrafted goods had me stumble over a boat-builder video, which makes you want to rent a workshop, get a bunch of woodworking tools, and start building canoes. The passion and love involved in this boat-building company is just stunning.
Long before I moved to America, I dreamed about travelling the great spaces you see in the photos of Scott Pommier. Before he started taking shots of the Great Wide Open, guys on motorcycles, and campaigns for Chrysler and Harley Davidson, he was a skateboard photographer for many years, shooting pieces of art rather than the usual super-wide angle stuff that bores the shit out of anybody.
Being born into a metal-work family, I was raised to respect and admire good craftmanship and a well built bicycle falls exactly into that category. Jordan Hufnagel is the uncrowned King of Custom Bicycle Building. His bikes are made from scratch, measured indiviually for each client, welded in his own shop, and the riders’ name is then drawn on the finished frame as well. Neat. Not exactly the cheapest option to buy a bicycle, but then again, sometimes it’s just the RIGHT option.
