After the positive response to the mini animated short Planet One here is the second installment, aptly called Planet Two. ‘While spending some time on Planet Two we follow a day in the life of one of it’s typical inhabitants… ahh the rat race, a struggle people from all over the cosmos have to deal with’. Planet Two is the second animation from my ongoing illustration project ‘Handymartian’s Illustrated Aliens’. You can follow the progress of this project where a new alien illustration is uploaded every day, building up to a monthly illustration of their planet. Planet Two was created during February 2013.

My latest very, very short animation was created for a cool new Vimeo channel called ‘Full Secs’ inviting people to make an animation with just one second of action in it. The rules are simple; a two second title card followed by a one second animation followed by a two second end credit card. It was set up by the ridiculously talented guys at Animade and the results have been brilliant, lots of really inventive ideas, silly puns, quick fire gags and brilliant animation skills.

I’ve recently been catching up with all the episodes of the Comedian’s Comedian podcast while I try and come up with ideas for new animated shorts. It’s required listening for anyone who is trying to write comedy and particularly so if you have aspirations to be a stand up comedian as in each episode a different stand up is interviewed about their writing methods and experiences from their careers. It’s put together by fellow stand up, Stuart Goldsmith, and features a wide selection of comedians in different stages of their careers, with varying outlooks on the same job. Hopefully some of the writing tips will rub off on me and my next short will be doubly hilarious as a consequence, fingers crossed!

Some animations really hit you from left field. Ballpit is one of those. This experimental film was made by Kyle Mowat as his thesis while studying animation at Sheridan Collage. It’s unlike any other animation short I’ve seen recently and is being shown at various animation festivals, picking up awards as it goes along. I can’t wait to see what Mowat comes up with next.
