I love these simple hand drawn looping gif animations that form It’s No Biggie by freelance illustrator/animator Lisette Berndt. Here’s how Lisette describes the project: “It’s no biggie, is satire, is entertainment, is you, is me, is annoyment, is life, is endlessness, is here and there’. And who am I to argue. My particular favourites […]
Some animations really hit you from left field, Ballpit is one of those. This experimental film was made by Kyle Mowat as his thesis while studying animation at Sheridan Collage. It’s unlike any other animation short I’ve seen and is being shown at various animation festivals, picking up awards as it goes along.
Reading the news on a computer seemed pretty far-fetched back in 1981 but, as this TV new report shows, it was possible. The only snag was that it took hours, you had to live in San Francisco and you didn’t get to see the picture, ads or comics. ‘It won’t be much competition to the […]
The brilliantly talented Conor Finnegen finally released his short Fear Of Flying online recently and it’s worth the wait. A great story about a bird who tries to avoid heading south for the winter lovingly created with a mix of puppetry and animation.
Here is my latest Planet animation from my ongoing Illustrated Aliens project. I’m now up to Planet Seven, where we find two of its inhabitant having a chat that gets a bit too much for one of them. If you’ve missed any of the other six planets, catch up with them on their dedicated Vimeo […]
Describing herself as ‘One of Australia’s most serious and busiest actors (also millennial illusionist)’ Claudia O’Doherty is, in fact, a very funny comedian. She has recently made some short Comedy Blap episodes for Channel 4 in the UK. In them she tries to raise money for her families’ travel agency, but I don’t think it’s […]
This is breathtakingly brilliant. Richly designed, beautifully animated and a heartbreaking storyline. Take ten minutes out of your day and immerse yourself in it.
The world’s leading festival of contemporary character culture, Pictoplasma kicks off today for three days of inspiring talks, screenings and more. It all happens in Berlin and runs until April 13.
This Gotye video by Lucinda Schreiber is great. It has a really creepy mood to it, in a good way. The question is, will it go mega-viral the way one of Gotye’s other videos famously did. Only time, and YouTube, will tell.
After the positive response to the mini animated short Planet One here is the second installment, aptly called Planet Two. ‘While spending some time on Planet Two we follow a day in the life of one of it’s typical inhabitants… ahh the rat race, a struggle people from all over the cosmos have to deal […]
The Centrifuge Brain Project is a faux documentary about some of the most insane fairground rides you will ever see. This is a brilliant execution of an idea that is both funny and vertigo inducing.
A gentle, breezy animation by Ohyujin for a gentle, breezy song by Yusin Oh. Simple Question of Balance has a calming quality to the animation and the painted illustrations in bright primary colours give it a charm and lightness.
Planet One is the first animation from the ongoing illustration project, Handymartian’s Illustrated Aliens. You can follow the progress of this project here, where a new alien illustration is uploaded every day, building up to a monthly illustration of their planet.
My latest very, very short animation was created for a cool new Vimeo channel called ‘Full Secs’ inviting people to make an animation with just one second of action in it. The rules are simple; a two second title card followed by a one second animation followed by a two second end credit card. It […]
