The Book of Doing offers a collection of ideas and activities that encourage you to use your life as a canvas and explore your creativity through everything you do to create and make, to explore and experiment, to play and build, to paint and cook-to do. I recently illustrated and designed every page by hand, from hand-drawn type, fonts, illustrations, and design layout.

I started working on this series of illustrations just to observe my day a little differently. Most days are spent getting to the studio, drawing, and thinking about briefs, and I just wanted to look at things in another way.

It’s the kind of mindfulness, for example: you can look at a tree and think ‘that is a tree’ or you can look at the shape of the tree, the colours of the leaves, the texture of the bark and the life forms that use it for a home. I wanted to try and apply this to everyday things. There is a new one up on Facebook every couple of days.

I discovered Silke Werzinger’s work because we are signed with the same illustration agency. I love all of her work, especially her ballpoint pen drawings mixed with water colour and subtle pop culture references, all complimented with nice typography.

My friend introduced me to Cities Aviv a few months back. His album, Digital Lowes, is free for download and is absolutely amazing. He used to play in a hardcore band, but I listen to a lot of hip hop and this has everything I want in a hip hop album: a little angst, good beats. It just makes you want to party.

Every time I see Benja Harney working on something I am amazed, not just at the intricate detail of everything, but the deadlines he works to and the clients he is working for. He is a paper engineer, making sculptures, illustrations, pop up books and objects out of paper. I recently went to an exhibition of his called the Paper Attic where he filled a room full of all things you would find in an attic: ice skates, wine bottles, records, books, all made from paper.

This is probably the most ridiculous video I have ever seen. I have no idea if this guy is for real or putting it on for a viral video. Whatever his goal, I’m glad he made this video. It made my day when i saw it and I hope it makes yours, too.

I am a huge fan of film clips like this, design in general, actually: simple and really effective. This video was directed by Thomas Thoms. The Go Roll Your Bones have an EP out which was mixed by Mikey Young from the Eddie Current Supression Ring. It’s music to put on loud with some headphones and get some work done.
