Awkward Family Photos

The Awkward Family Photos blog is a treasure-trove of embarassingly hilarious photos from the photo albums of people from around the world who send them in to the editors of Awkward Family Photos to reveal in all their glory to their readership.

Awkward Family Photos has a classic collection of 1980s family portraits, in particular, but Awkward Family Photos manages to post truly disturbing, yet ridiculously funny images of the badly dressed, bizarrely posed, and invariably strange-looking families as they wish to be remembered — or forgotten! — across all eras. One for the ages!

We ran this a while back, but it’s worth revisiting. Personally, I think it’s difficult for family photos to not be a bit stilted and weird, but Awkward Family Photos manages to post truly baffling images of badly dressed, strangely posed, and generally weird-looking clans as they wish to be remembered. Read more

It’s not up to public servants or government officials to decide what is art and what isn’t, but the real estate company that owned this wall that had been adorned with a mural by Teazer, Numskull, and Roach should have had the savvy to use the hip artwork to its advantage. Instead, now they have dicks on their wall.

The subtly off-kilter paintings of Seth Armstrong are blowing my mind without me even realizing it. Read more

A site that brings together many types of book arts, with many examples of book binding, typography, altered books, how to guides, zines, paper engineering and more. A great site to explore the possible directions of book-based art, with some amazing examples of what clever people do.

Analog electronics by British outfit Belbury Poly (Jim Jupp and Eric Zann) make me believe machines have souls and the ghosts of obsolete recording devices are haunting the dusty stacks of libraries debating the relevance of 60s avant-garde music and counterculture.

Yellow Bird Project, a Montreal-based organization, has teamed up with indie rock bands to raise money for charities. The rock bands, including big indie rockers like The National and The Shins, design their own tee-shirt and choose the charities that will benefit from the sales. What a great way to support a band you love and a worthy cause. Read more

The newest giclee print from Rebel Unlit, Inquiry into Jellyfish, is an adventure in mixed media. We love the subtleties of this piece, which could be missed at first glance: the transparencies, the color distress, the foreground texture. We’re also a pretty big fan of that jellyfish. Inspired by Haruki Murakami’s The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, this limited-edition piece is printed on cotton matt archival 310gsm paper and is available now in the Lost At E Minor online store.
