Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is much more than an artist. He invented new practices, inspired countless other artists, and was an integral part of several movements. Thanks to contemporary societies’ obsession with making anything with any cultural creditability marketable, his images are most commonly seen these days in everyday life, on t-shirts, posters, handbags and anything else that can be sold.

Most famously, he coined the expression, ‘15 minutes of fame’, and as the media becomes increasingly obsessed with reality television and disposable celebrities, those four words have become even more important. Apart from that statement and a print of Marilyn Munroe, Andy Warhol was a prolific artist who left behind an immense body of work covering paintings, print and film. For something different check out a book of his wisdom, ‘The Philosophy of Andy Warhol’, and make the effort to see one of his exhibitions. Many artists have been inspired by and compared to him.
