Bad news, Rick and Morty fans. The highly-beloved animated series won’t likely be back until 2019, because according to writer-producer Ryan Ridley, “no one is working on the show.”
In an interview with The Detroit Cast, Ridley ranted out about how slow everyone is in making season four happen.
“I’m just shocked that it’s taking – we got done writing season three in November of last year and here we are 11 months later.
“And then I know how long the show takes to write, let alone animate, so it’s just like, I’d be surprised if there was a fourth season on the air any sooner than 2019 – in late 2019.”
He added: “They really take their time. I never understood why everybody — all parties, Dan [Harmon], Justin [Roiland], and Adult Swim — didn’t get their shit together, and make the show fast.
“I just don’t get it. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I’m sure they all have their reasons.”
With Rick and Morty’s storylines growing more complex in season three, it’s understandable that the writers are taking their time to get their creative juices flowing. Still, Ridley perfectly summed up how many of us feel about having to wait nearly two years for the series to go back on the air.
“Get your s**t together, you guys,” he said, quoting Morty himself, “get it all together and put it in a backpack.”
