HBO has finally confirmed when Game of Thrones will return and the news isn’t good

If you were hoping to see the final season of Game of Thrones in 2018, consider your hopes dashed.

HBO has released a statement tragically confirming what had suspected by many – the show won’t be returning this year.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait for at least another 12 months before they can finally get some resolutions to key questions like, who is the night king, is Bran really the key to ending the war, and of course – are Jon and Daenerys really going to keep doing… that?

In a December interview with Variety, Sophie Turner, who portrays Sansa Stark on the show, had said as much about the show’s return when she was asked about whether she was excited about her ‘upcoming work’.

“Yeah, I’m really excited. Game of Thrones comes out in 2019. Dark Phoenix is in November. Then I have a couple indie movies coming out. I’m a producer on my next movie [Girl Who Fell From the Sky]. So I’m really excited about the future.”

The final season will consist of six episodes.
