Today show co-host makes deeply moving, on-air response to Matt Lauer’s firing

One of the hosts of the US today show, Matt Lauer has been fired after a co-worker complained about his inappropriate sexual behaviour in the workplace during the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Savannah Guthrie, Lauer’s co-host on Today for over five years appeared on the desk on Wednesday without him. Devastated, she read a statement from NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack, outlining the circumstances that led to Lauer losing his job, before explaining how heartbroken she felt.

The statement claimed that this was the first formal complaint of sexual harassment made against Lauer, adding: “Our highest priority is to create a workplace environment where everyone feels safe and protected, and to ensure that any actions that run counter to our core values are met with consequences, no matter who the offender”.
