Australian teen picks fight with a crocodile in the name of love

Ah, the things people do for love – one of which includes jumping into a croc-infested river and wrestling with one.

Lee De Paauw, an 18-year-old from Queensland, recently picked a fight with a croc just to impress a girl. The teen reportedly had “ten cups of goon” and was dared by friends to jump into the Johnstone River at Innisfail to win over a backpacker named Sophie Paterson.

Teasing the girl that crocs were more likely to attack backpackers than the locals, he jumped into the water to prove a point. He was almost instantly grabbed by the three-metre reptile.

“(The crocodile) took me underneath the water, shook its head a bit, and I managed to get a good punch in on its eye, and then it let go and I swam back to the stairs,” he told The TODAY Show.

De Paauw was then taken to the hospital, where he was treated for two broken bones and gauge marks.

And what did the lucky lady think of all this?

“I’ve never heard a guy scream like that,” Paterson told 9NEWS. “There was a lot of blood, a lot of bone.”

She, however, later agreed to a night at the movies with De Pauuw. Hopefully, flowers and a box of chocolates would suffice this time to catch her attention.
