Returning for its ninth year, Vivid Sydney is bringing the newest, most innovative ideas to the city. Running until June 17, the event includes talks, workshops, and exhibits focusing on a wide range of fields, including entrepreneurship, robotics, fashion, and filmmaking, among others.
The festival, which is Australia’s biggest winter event, is taking place in various venues across Sydney, including The Rocks, Darling Harbour and Kings Cross.
The schedule is packed, and it’ll be near impossible to attend all the programs. So here’s a short guide on some of the highlights at Vivid Sydney: Ideas. You can thank us later!
Human Robot Friendship Ball
No black tie needed. Just bring your never-ending curiosity about robotics!
The inaugural Human Robot Friendship Ball will celebrate the “bonds between people and machines” by featuring some of the coolest robots around. You’ll be able to test out the latest gadgets and listen to tech industry leaders, as well as test your mettle (or should I say, metal) in different hands-on robotic challenges.
The event will also have a human-robot photo booth and a human-robot dance (so make sure to practice your robot moves before going.)

sARTorial: Where Digital Art Meets Fashion, Sound & Technology
With the fashion industry plagued by unsustainable practices, Vivid Sydney is doing its part to help find a solution.
This interesting event promises to “explore the relationship between fashion and electronics in a part run-way, part performance-art exhibition that allows moments of interaction between audiences and the designs”. Sounds like our kind of spectacle!
sARTorial fosters “collaboration and skills-sharing between artists, designers, and technophiles and showcases the latest possibilities in wearable art and technology.”
And even better, hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be available all night. Yep.

Light of Thoughts
Speaking of ideas, the Light of Thoughts installation at Macquarie Place Park is full of them. This compelling interactive collaboration between Pak Lighting, Huawei, and Xiaomi Yeelight, features a giant semi-transparent acrylic brain which can be manipulated and stimulate using basic hand movements. Learn how great ideas are formed as the lights in the brain give a fascinating window into human thought processes.
