While the loud noises, fast cars, and energetic crowds are pretty exciting, the awesome parties that take place during the Grand Prix have to be the best part! And there have been some fairly outrageous ones over the years.
As we get closer to the 2017 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix, and the excitement of Heineken Saturday, we are taking a look back at some of best Formula 1 parties that have been thrown over the years.
Milan Party, 2009
To celebrate the conclusion of the Italian Grand Prix in 2009, an amazingly elaborate party was held at the Padiglione Visconti Space in Tortona, Milan. To give you an idea of the scale of the event, limited edition velvet and carbon fibre champagne bottles were created for the party, and Sir Richard Branson was the guest of honour.
DJ Nicola Fasano was responsible for the sound of the event, while paid dancers moved to the Formula 1 inspired choreography of Brian Bullard. Did we mention the dancers were wearing Renato Geraci ‘wearable technology’ optical fibre designs?
Salon Privé, 2011
If you thought that the Formula 1 only threw parties at the end of a Grand Prix, you are sadly mistaken. At the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, an absolutely insane party called Salon Privé was held at the Emirates Palace hotel to celebrate the start of the racing weekend.
DJ Stéphane Pompougnac flew over from France to man the decks, while the competitors and their guests danced underneath the stars on the beach.
Bugra Berberoglu, general manager of Emirates Palace, commented that “Emirates Palace is the icon of Arabian hospitality in Abu Dhabi and we are providing a gorgeous setting at Salon Privé to usher in the weekend of events in style.” And that’s exactly what they did!
However, it didn’t stop there. The party continued at the exclusive Amber Lounge night club – a club that has seen the likes of Hugh Grant, Bono, Naomi Campbell and Liz Hurley walk through its doors. To give you an idea of how special the event was, entry to the after party cost between €650 and €15,000 for those who were not privileged enough to receive an invite.
At least the €15,000 tickets included unlimited drinks, right?
Heineken Saturday, 2017
With the 2017 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix set to take over Melbourne’s Albert Park at the end of March, you don’t have long to wait to be able to experience one of these parties for yourself.
Heineken Saturday is one of the most highly anticipated events of the whole Grand Prix and will see hot live music acts and ice cold Heineken come together under the glow of a giant screen displaying all of the action from the track. It doesn’t get much better than this. This year, you’ll be able to catch Rudimental and Hayden James live in concert. Schweeeeet!
BLU Party ATX, 2016
Like all good Grand Prix events, the 2016 Austin incarnation came with one hell of a party! Known as Blu Party ATX, the event was held in the former Antone’s nightclub with the help of the international Formula 1 event team My Yacht Club.
The disused space was transformed into an absolute dream, blending all of the extravagance and glamour of the Formula 1 with the raw and ready industrial space. The champagne was flowing, as a host of drivers and celebrities danced the night away.
