*EDITED*Disney researchers have developed a room that can wirelessly charge your phone

Is there anything Disney can’t do?!

Disney researchers have been hard at work, not on their latest cinematic masterpiece, but rather on creating technology with the potential to change the way we use our mobile devices dramatically.

Basically, they’re working on technology which would allow our phones and laptops to be charged just by being in a room! No more cords or running out of battery but a wireless recharge in a similar fashion to wifi!

The process is known as quasistatic cavity resonance and it can basically charge our devices through the air.

Imagine walking into a room with a dead phone and walking out fully charged! It’s a whole new world… If you’ll excuse the Disney reference. #sorrynotsorry

In a sample execution of the technology, the researchers created a 16′ x 16′ room with a copper pole in the middle and aluminium walls. The pole stored a charge and they created a magnetic field inside the room via an outside generator.

While this room was created purely for the study, the belief is that already existing rooms could be modified to utilise the technology.

This technology could see us never charge our phones at a powerpoint ever again. That’s the world we want to live in!
