There have been a lot of great stories this International Women’s Day, but this one surely takes the cake.
A new statue of a defiant, badass young girl has been erected directly opposite Wall Street’s iconic Charging Bull.
The ‘Fearless Girl’ was designed by sculptor Kristen Visbal, and depicts a school-aged girl with her hands bravely planted on her hips and staring down the bull.
Inscribed on the plaque at her feet are the words:
“Know the power of women in leadership. SHE makes a difference.”
Crowds flocked to Wall Street today as it was unveiled by State Street Global Advisors to urge big businesses to promote more women to senior positions.
25 per cent of the largest companies in America have ZERO women on their boards.
And this is a problem we can relate to in Australia as well – it was revealed yesterday that there are more men named John who are CEOs of Australian companies than female CEOs.
