Shia Lebeouf is known for his bizarre, provocative art – and now he’s got white supremacists in his sights.
Some context, first. Shia Lebeouf, you know, the kid from Evens Stevens who is doing his darndest to get people to forget that he was the kid from Even Stevens?
Well he’s hosting a livestream in front of the New York Museum of the Moving Image that’s part-protest, part-performance art
The premise is pretty simple: stand in front of a camera for hours and scream “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US” ad nauseum with anyone who’s willing to join him in his screamings.
It’s obviously aimed squarely at newly-inaugurated President, Donald Trump.
This relatively odd and innocuous protest got heated though, when a white supremacist rocked up, moved close into the camera and said ’14’.
14, for those of you lucky enough not to know, is a rallying call for white supremacists – it represents the 14 words of the slogan:
“We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.”
Just like any good actor, LaBeouf stays in character, following the man around shouting “He will not divide us” until the dude eventually leaves.
There’s probably something to be said about the irony of aggressively shouting “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US” into someone’s face (seems kind of divisive, no?), but then again, I probably would’ve done something far worse if I had the opportunity, so props to him for the restraint.
And here are some other highlights from the livestream
