If you thought your significant other giving you the cold shoulder for a few hours was bad, try two decades.
That’s what Otou Kayama from Nara, Japan, did to his wife Yumi for 20 years, while still living in the same house and raising three kids.
The couple recently went on a Japanese TV show where Otou revealed that he held a grudge against his wife after she paid more attention to their children, rather than him. In the years throughout, Yumi would try to talk to Otou, but he only responded in nods and grunts.
Tired of this petty feud, their 18-year-old son wrote to the TV show to stage an intervention. The following clip shows the two seated at a park bench where they had their first date.
“Somehow it’s been a while since we talked,” says Otou, while his kids eavesdropped nearby. “You were so concerned about the kids, I was kind of… jealous. I was sulking about it.”
He adds: “Yumi up until now, you have endured a lot of hardship. I want you to know I’m grateful for everything.”
It’s here that their two daughters start crying, and the two parents begin to apologise and bow to each other. “I also want to talk after this,” says Otou. “I hope we can work together from here.”
