These neon signs reveal profound hidden messages in their reflection

In his series Here Not There, artist Camilo Matiz dishes out truth bombs using a clever installation of light and reflection.

The artworks involved putting up double-sided neon signs with empowering messages. However, the signs reveal a completely different meaning once you see their reflection via a mirror at the back.

For instance, ‘Take A Selfie’ reveals itself as ‘Fake A Life’, or ‘Believe You Can’ turning out to be ‘Lie To Yourself Anyway’.

“This series of light sculptures confront the viewer with the duality of who they are and how they perceive themselves,” explained Avant Gallery. “The same object displays differently in the mirror’s reflection, as life reflects unrealized desires of the heart, mind and soul.”
