Ramen is traditionally best enjoyed during cold weather, but an NYC restaurant has come up with a new variation that lets you enjoy it on hot summer days too.
The Dessert Kitchen has started the latest food trend with its ice cream ramen. Yup, you read that right.
The ice cream ramen features a sweet jelly noodle – called kanten – that’s made from algae. Instead of bathing it in beef broth, the noodle is served with crushed ice, evaporated milk, mocha balls, frozen melon balls, and mango chunks. Think raindrop cake, albeit in ramen form.
Customers can also choose from different noodle colours and add flavours like green tea, honey, or brown sugar.
According to TODAY Food writer Emi Boscamp, the dish “wasn’t overly sweet — the flavors were actually pretty mellow.” She added that the dessert was pretty similar to the feeling of eating ramen. “I could slurp the noodles — which were slick and cool on my tongue — and drink the ’broth’ (the ice cream).”
