Bacon, coffee and a fresh dose of inspiration. It’s basically the perfect way to start the day, which means you really should be getting along to CreativeMornings.
The concept began in 2008, when Tina Roth Eisenberg decided it was time to build an easy, accessible event for the creative community of New York City.
As their website explains, “The concept was simple: breakfast and a short talk one Friday morning a month. Every event would be free of charge and open to anyone.”
Free breakfast featuring a talk from a creative person? Yeah, no surprises here, CreativeMornings has grown exponentially in the ensuing eight years, with ‘chapters’ having popped up all over the planet.
Naturally, that means we’ve got CreativeMornings here in Australia, with chapters in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
So what can you expect if you lob along to one of these awesome, still-free events?
Sydney’s most recent CreativeMornings saw Mills from ustwo talk about “not succeeding or failing but succailing”.
A global digital product studio, ustwo have worked with the likes of Adidas, Jaguar Land Rover and Lush to create apps and , as well as building their own games, apps and services.
Mills started ustwo with “my best mate (not business partner)” in 2004, and since then the company has grown to have almost 300 employees at four offices in London, New York, Malmö and Sydney.
It’s quite the success story… Except it’s not, it’s a story of succailure.
“We were releasing things that weren’t exactly successes, but they weren’t failures,” Mills explained in his chat.
“It’s not okay – really – to fail, unless you take everything you learn from that failure and you wind it into the next thing, and you go again.
“And that, for me, is what succailure is.”
His stream-of-conscious chat, complemented by some great slides, photos and videos (wait til you see the clip for “the succailure feelz” – it explains everything perfectly) is the kind of inspiring and informative stuff you can expect at CreativeMornings – with a side of eggs, of course.
