Late last week, music lovers the world over were devastated by the news that Prince had died. The ultimate innovator – who released almost 40 studio albums from 1978 up to this year – was not only a legendary musician, he also looked completely awesome. All the time.

Edward Enninful, the creative director of American fashion magazine W, told the New York Times: “I’d never seen anything like it in my life, someone so blatantly challenging the ideas of race and gender and sexuality. In a way, it was comparable to David Bowie, except that Prince brought that to the black community.”

In light of his long-standing habit of setting his own trends and having them rock the world, this illustration series from artist Gary Card seems the perfect tribute to Prince’s life and impact on modern culture.
