Here’s a fun piece of music trivia: Grandmaster Flash has a 5,000-piece mug collection. Yes, that Grandmaster Flash of ‘It’s Nasty‘ fame. He’s so serious about his mug collection that he stores each one in a special storage space at the perfect room temperature. Pretty interesting, right?
Well, Italian photographer Dan Bannino’s latest photo series, ‘Niche of Wonders – Rockstars’ Wunderkammer‘ shows us even more quirky facts about our favourite musicians. For instance, did you know Frank Sinatra loved crossword puzzles or that The Who’s Roger Daltrey enjoys trout fishing when he’s not on tour?
Bannino talks about the inspiration behind the photo series: ‘A few weeks ago on a cold binge watching evening I stumbled upon a documentary about Alice Cooper, where it was somehow underlined how this incredible ‘master of horror’ found himself addicted to golf playing. I thought this was a brilliant contraposition between wearing makeup and being chained up on stage while swinging golf clubs on the greenest grass of the circuit. I couldn’t resist to research this topic, discovering more about my favourite musicians and especially what they do when the stage curtains close’.
‘To a 1700s audience, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s symphonies were shockingly new, impressing European royalty and the Pope in person. In the 1970s, Alice Cooper shocked people all around the word by creating a totally new way of performing with music (including snakes and fake beheadings), earning the title of ‘The Godfather of Shock Rock’. They are both somehow rockstars, inspiring for their sounds, cutting-edge methods and incredible lives on stage. Have you ever wonder what do they do when the show is over? From Sinatra to Nikki Sixx, the greatest names of music in a photo series containing all the objects depicting their unusual hobbies and passions.
‘Be prepared to change your thoughts about your favorite rockstar, and perhaps next time you could even consider to buy them the right Christmas present’.
Dan Bannino’s series ‘Niche of Wonders – Rockstars’ Wunderkammer‘ presents eight brilliant photos that delves into the private lives of our most public rock stars. Take a look! And be sure to follow Dan on Facebook and Instagram for even more incredible photography.
