In Toronto, a creative mum gave her twin daughters a smashing (no pun intended) birthday party by fulfilling their wish: to have a princess Hulk birthday cake.
Despite not having seen the films, Lainie Elton’s 4-year-old twins loved the Avengers and requested that they get a cake inspired by Earth’s mightiest heroes. Oh, and they also asked for Disney princesses. With these two themes in mind, Lainie then spent six hours spread over a few days dressing up a Hulk action figure in a fabulous purple dress and red tiara. The result of all that hard work? The kids loved it, of course! That, along with their Ironman and Captain America action figures!
Other than setting off a ton of princess Hulk jokes online, Lainie adds that the cake has also started a dialogue about smashing social gender norms.
‘I absolutely love the fact that the cake has sparked discussions about gender stereotype’, she said. ‘It feels pretty great that I can somehow contribute to that conversation in some way since I’m fully supportive of kids being able to make decisions about what they play with, what they wear, etc. with no regard to whether something is ‘meant’ for girls or boys’.
Well said. Now, who wants a princess Ultron cake for their birthday?
