It’s hard to think that these photos were taken in the age of the Internet, but it’s true. These pics were all taken from Russia’s Google Street View, courtesy of the blog VsePloho. And it’s about as depressing and bizarre as it gets.
When we see Russia in the media (on a good day), we’re presented with beautiful architecture and perhaps gorgeous landscapes we can’t find anywhere else in the world. But Russia also has a dark side, where the poor live in forgotten, decaying villages. If you’ve read Russian literature, these scenes don’t quite add up to the glamorous cities Dostoevsky or Tolstoy wrote about, but then again, fiction is about bending the truth.
