Christchurch’s Hotel Montreal: luxury a rebuilding city needs

Hotel Montreal is Christchurch’s newest luxury boutique hotel. Opened mid-2014, the hotel stays true to its name by incorporating European flair with contemporary style. A polo theme runs through the hotel, with guests able to eat at the popular Polo Bar, and most of the decorations are buyable, should you feel so inclined.

The hotel offers 25 spacious rooms each with a private balcony. Our Deluxe Suite had a self-contained kitchenette, plus complimentary wifi and use of an iPad. At over 50 square metres, this was a large room. The generous proportions continued to the extras, with the amenities kits, tea and mini-bar stocked with high quality items.

Family owned and operated, Hotel Montreal is situated near the wonderful Hagley Park, so you can easily walk to the awesome Christchurch farmers markets, stroll downtown to catch a play at the theatre or browse the shops in New Regent street.

As for the hotel, the bed was big, and deep. Oh so deep. The sleep was memorable (something not always associated with hotels!).  My only gripe was for a hotel room this large, it’d be wonderful to have a bath.

This modern, beautifully put together hotel will set the standards for this city for some time to come and is the perfect spot to see the best this interesting, regenerating city has to offer.
