Already embraced by hipsters and fashionistas, Melbourne is now making a name for itself as Australia’s headquarters of vintage glamor. As seen in the immaculately cut, full-skirted ’50s and ’60s-style frocks worn to great effect on TV’s Mad Men, the polished vintage look can be yours at Circa, easily one of the most authentic vintage shop located on the first floor of the beautiful Art Deco building Mitchell House at Lonsdale Street.

Don’t be surprised if you come across harried wardrobe designers deep in search for precious pieces in film and TV projects, as Circa stocks a beautifully edited range of vintage clothing and accessories from the Victorian era through to the forties, fifties and sixties.

You can expect to sieve happily through racks and shelves of formal dresses, gorgeous heels, beaded purses, handsome jackets, debonair hats and a whole lot of time travel once inside. Most items are in washed and restored condition and are therefore ready to wear. Circa owner, Nicole Jenkins, who has written a sold-out book ‘Love Vintage’ has also put aside items which are too delicate to be worn and are thus more suitable for the serious collector.
