Victoria Will has photographed countless celebrities in her day, but one project titled ‘Tintypes’ is worlds away from her usual photo collections. For this project, which was created for the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, Will used an old technique for developing her celebrity photographs.

A thin sheet of iron coated with collodion emulsion was used to get the vintage effect, though that’s not the tricky part. ‘Wet-plate tintypes’ require photographers to work quickly during each shot and Will had to expose each photograph while still wet. The results, however, are well worth the effort. Each celebrity has been transformed into an idol of yesteryear, giving each shot a more powerful angle.
