We’re not saw whether this is an ‘awww’ moment, or a ‘run for the freaking hills!’ moment… Using a combination of photography, digital effects and models producer Peter Chinn created these crazy images of animals at various stages of their development in the womb/egg/pouch. While not all of them strictly real, all are very closely based on accurate photography and faithfully depict what’s actually going on in utero. Chinn made the stunning images a few years ago for use in a National Geographic documentary.

So what can we learn from this mixture of science and special effects? Sharks are terrifying even when they’re the size of your thumb, it snows in the womb of a polar bear and (as expected) unborn wolf puppies are just adorable!
