This brave model looks totally different from the others

19-year-old Chantelle Brown-Young may just be the world’s first and only model with vitiligo, a condition that causes depigmentation of the skin. You may have also heard that one of the world’s greatest pop icon – Michael Jackson – had it. Vitiligo is caused by a malfunctioning immune system. It has no cure to date, and affects less than one percent of the world’s population.

One can only imagine how much taunting Chantelle had to endure from children who don’t know any better when she was growing up. But instead of blaming her skin condition for all the problems it brings her, this plucky lady decided she should learn to accept and embrace her condition.

When she started to convince herself of her unusual beauty, others became convinced as well and she was given assignments for photo shoots and magazine spreads. Her big break came when she joined the other participants in America’s Next Top Model.

Currently a finalist on the hugely popular TV show, she remains very sure of her life goal. ‘I want to be America’s next top model because it’s a lifelong dream. I am the underdog and I want to prove that one can follow one’s dreams despite all the flaws and setbacks’.
