Modern still life ‘paintings’ swap fruits with garbage

With her Recycled Beauty collaboration with San Francisco-based photographer Laurie Frankel, New York-based designer Diane Gatterdam cleverly replaced fruits with discarded items and street litter in various states of disintegration.

By putting throwaway rubbish as the focus in these works inspired by traditional still life paintings, the series reminds us about the amount of stuff we waste on a daily basis — and how we’re collectively adding to the ugliness of modern life.
