No friends? No problem! Japan’s Moomin Cafe has stuffed toys to keep you company

Forever alone? There’s a cafe for that! Japan’s Moomin Cafe is bringing new friendships to solo diners, in the shape of large stuffed Moomin dolls. But who are the Moomins, you ask? They’re a community of wide-eyed hippopotamus-like creatures that appear in popular Swedish-Finnish children’s books-and they’ve got a huge following.

One Twitter user, Haru, visited one of the cafes in Tokyo Dome City LaQua, and after her order was taken, ‘a staff member told her that if she didn’t mind, there was somebody who wanted to sit with her’. It turned out to be Snork Maiden, Moomintroll’s friend and playmate. Childish? Maybe. But totally cool? Yes!
