Our changing seas: a coral reef made entirely out of ceramics

Artist Courtney Mattison has unveiled the third instalment of her ‘Our Changing Seas’, a series of ceramic coral reef sculptures made entirely by hand. The third piece shows the devastating effect of climate change on an ecosystem through a shocking contrast between healthy, colourful corals and the skeletal remains of bleached ones.

She tells Colossal: ‘There is still time for corals to recover even from the point of bleaching if we act quickly to decrease the threats we impose. Perhaps if my work can influence viewers to appreciate the fragile beauty of our endangered coral reef ecosystems, we will act more wholeheartedly to help them recover and even thrive’.
