Now showing: a 19th century painting… in 3D!

While vacationing in Napflion, Greece, digital artist Zsolt Ekho Farkas was challenged by his wife to recreate a 19th century painting in 3D. And as you know, gentlemen, whenever your wife challenges you to render a 19th century painting into a 3D masterpiece, you never back down!

It took him two months to turn Benczur Gyula’s ‘Budavar Repossession’ into a full 3D recreation, but he got the job done. He says he plans to make more of these 3D renderings of paintings in the future, seeing as how this one became quite popular online.

To see how he did it, here’s a short step-by-step of his process.
