The last meals of death row inmates

If you had one last meal before meeting up with the Grim Reaper, what would it be? That’s the question that New Zealand-based artist Henry Hargreaves tackles in his series ‘No Seconds’, wherein he re-enacts the last meals of death row inmates.

The last meal, or ‘The Last Supper’, offers death-row inmates to request a meal before their execution. The meals he presents range from the extravagant, like getting served Lobster tail and steak while having a Lord of the Rings marathon, to the weird, like requesting for just a single olive, to the usual, a bucket of KFC. The series gives us an excursion into the mind of a man whose days are numbered, as well as the kind of comfort food people turn to – because in their case they really needed a lot of comforting.

The photographs give off a fascinating feeling, but in a weird and morbid kind of way. It will make you ask yourself the question: ‘what would I want for my last meal?’
