So long, loudmouths! Study tells us why silent types get the girl

Here’s one way to get the girl: keep your mouth shut! A new study has found that men ‘who use verbose language are deemed less attractive’ to women and ‘men who use shorter average word lengths and concise sentences were preferred by volunteers who listened to male speech patterns’. Researchers believe the preference ‘arises because women generally use longer words and so shorter words make a man sound more masculine,’ with one exception: foreign languages. Foreign languages were preferred ‘overall for being exotic’.

Researchers also noticed that men ‘with voices suggesting they are larger’ were more popular, while women with ‘breathy’ voices like Marilyn Monroe were preferred to those with ‘croaky’ voices like Kim Kardashian’s. We don’t need a study to tell us that last part!
