What would rats want to eat before they inevitably get their necks snapped by the crushing weight of a mouse trap? Probably something gourmet, like strawberry cheesecake, spinach and ricotta lasagna, onion soup, nachos, or pizza. At least that’s what Davide Luciano and Claudia Ficca imagine in their photo series, ‘Gourmet Mouse Traps’.

In the series, mouse traps are outfitted with savoury and mouth-watering dishes rather than the standard cheese. Davide recalls the inspiration for the project hit him on his subway ride home after a week-long cheese advertising shoot. ‘I was in a cheesy state of mind that week’, he says. Claudia was quick to bite on the idea and immediately drew up the menu.

The creative couple then worked tirelessly to pull of the unique concept. Davide took care of the mood, changing lighting every scene to give the impression of different homes at different times of the day. Claudia handled the creation of the mini dishes. She says, ‘Making mini versions of these foods required preciseness and concentration, I definitely made use of my fine tip tweezers for this job. From conception to creation this project was so much fun’.

‘Gourmet Mouse Traps’ features 10 gourmet dishes, namely: ‘Strawberry Cheesecake,Bagel & Lox , Cheese Board, Grilled Cheese, Spinach and Ricotta Lasagna, Bagel & Lox , Nachos, Onion Soup, Mac & Cheese, Pizza, and Poutine’.
