Blame the hipsters! Beard implants are now a ‘trend’
It’s official: beards are as trendy as boobs. So much that many men in New York’s hipster-filled neighbourhoods of Williamsburg, Park Slope, and Bushwick, are coughing up as much as $7,000 to get a thicker and manlier coat of facial hair. This was recently discovered by website DNA Info, when they interviewed a few plastic surgeons. Dr. Jeffrey Epstein, a Midtown East surgeon, said that facial hair transplants are on the rise especially now that it’s fashionable. In fact, he averages three beard implants a week, compared to only a handful a year a few years ago.
The procedure goes like this: the surgeon takes hair from the chest or scalp and plants it onto the face. Once transplanted, the root takes hold and it can then be treated like a normal beard. Shave it and it’ll grow back instantly. Beard transplants range from $3,000 for patients with patchy beards, to $7,000 for patients who can’t grow a scruff at all. Some clients even brought pictures of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tom Selleck, and Ryan Gosling as their beard inspirations. And the most popular beard implant style? The lumberjack-meets-roadie-hybrid.
Of course, not all clients are hipsters. Others are males who want to look younger, follicle-challenged guys, female-to-male transgenders, and Hasidic Jews. But with this trend on the rise, we can’t help but dub New York City as ‘The World’s Hipster Beard Implant Capital of the World’.
