World’s weirdest events? In Gloucestershire, people chase cheese down a hill each year

Ah, thanks to DesignTaxi featuring this rather excellent infographic of the most bizarre festivals worldwide, we now know that a cheese-rolling fiesta is held at Cooper’s Hill during May every year, which, as the name suggests, involves setting a 1ft-diameter wheel of cheese on its way down a hilly slope while participants race against each other to be the first to chase it down to hit, er, rock bottom.

Last year’s event apparently received its fair share of publicity, with local cops trying to stop the race from happening by banning a 80-something grandmother from supplying cheese for the famous event. Who knows what drama this year’s cheese rolling event will unfold?
