Blub: a retro clock that uses nixie tubes

Sydney-based designer Duncan Hellmers’ love of contemporary products with a nostalgic twist has resulted in a Kickstarter project called ‘Blub’. The device is simple: it’s a clock that tells time through Nixie tubes, a retro electronic device that displays digits and symbols using glowing discharge. In layman terms, you have this Nikola Tesla-like clock that spout glowing numbers right by your bedside!

Despite the old-school technology it uses, Blub can be programmed to tell temperature and date, as well as serve as an alarm clock. The design is minimal and sleek with a design aesthetic reminiscent of Apple and Braun products, making it the coolest thing to ever grace your bedside table. The Kickstarter project has already surpassed its funding goal of AUD$5,000 with AUD$33,343 worth of pledges from 92 backers.
