It’s probably a good thing the Internet wasn’t around during the American Frontier days. And it’s probably a good thing Internet slang dies out (it does, right?), because Shawn Huckins has made these paintings look too funny. The American __tier is a statement on both society today and 19th century America, with large white letters painted onto some serious-looking portraits and scenes.

Huckins says of his work, “With the recent additions of pop culture slang words, such as ‘twerk’ and ‘selfie,’ to the Oxford Dictionary, was this the vision our early ancestors and frontier explorers had in mind as we continue the ‘conquest?'” You decide!
