Fact: UK doctors now prescribe books to treat depressed patients

Wow, this is way cool: doctors in the UK apparently are now prescribing books to patients with depression. Thanks to a new initiative that debuted in June last year, National Health Service doctors can now prescribe self-help books on slips that patients can take to the library — instead of the pharmacy — to get their dose of help. Though the titles (think Mind Over Mood and The Feeling Good Handbook) are really by the National Health Service, we are already daydreaming of the time when they will add fine works of literature to the list of books.
