Ambient sounds to help you get creative
Studies show that it’s hard to be productive in an awfully quiet workplace (imagine crickets in the background). It doesn’t take a genius to know that it’s also hard to work in a loud and commotion-filled room. But ambient music, like the sound of birds chirping or waves crashing, has been known to have the right mix of calm and noise to boost productivity.
Edinburgh-based writer Gabriel Martin created asoftmurmur, a site that is dedicated to ambient sounds. People with writer’s block can choose from six soothing and creativity-boosting sounds like: rain, thunder, fire, waves, birds, and humans. And the best part? It’s free!
Customer testimony: In the time it took me to write this post, I found that the sound of waves crashing was indeed a much better background noise than Miley singing ’23’.
