Back in December, National Public Radio (aka NPR) collaborated with KPCC for a fun and revealing ‘Public Square’ series to look into what the community valued. Asking people to photograph and share some of their favorite things, it was a surprise to see just what people value in their lives – with just one iPhone placed in the batch of entries they received on Instagram. Just one!

Here’s just a list of what some people placed in their ‘favorite things’ photographs: hand-written letters from parents, WWII memorabilia, platanos, favorite novels, a Navajo wedding basket, ticket stubs, and sketchbooks.
